First Polestar 2 electric cars arrive in New Zealand

First Polestar 2 electric cars arrive in New Zealand

The first Polestar 2s have started to arrive on New Zealand shores, ahead of the new marque’s test-drive programme.

The fully electric sister brand to Volvo announced it would be joining our local market earlier this year. The 2 will be its first model offered locally, with pricing and spec arguably positioning the model closer to the country’s most popular electric car, the Tesla Model 3, than any other rival.

As previously reported, the Polestar 2 will be offered locally in three flavours; the entry-level single motor Standard Range, the mid-spec single motor Long Range, and the flagship dual motor all-wheel drive Long Range.

The trio will be priced at $69,900, $78,900, and 93,900 respectively, meaning that the marque has two models that are eligible for the government’s Clean Car Discount.

“Polestar has reached a milestone in New Zealand with their first pre-launch vehicles arriving into the country,” said the brand in a news release.

“Polestar 2 pre-launch vehicles are now being prepared at a facility in Auckland. Polestar Auckland will be organising viewings and test drives by appointment only later this month from a temporary location in Grey Lynn, Auckland followed by Wellington and Christchurch later in the year.

“The award-winning EV is set to dominate the New Zealand EV market,” it added in a separate post on social media.

Polestar 2s have already been spotted registered and driving on roads around Auckland, with the aforementioned test drive programme reportedly already in full swing.
