Toyota New Zealand is proud to announce record vehicle sales in January 2023, with 49 per cent of these sales being hybrid electric vehicles and a continued focus on a balanced product portfolio.

This marks the best January new vehicles sales month for Toyota New Zealand since 2018.

Toyota New Zealand sold 2597 new vehicles in the month of January with an electrification mix of 49 per cent and CO2 emissions for new vehicles sitting at 169g/km, an 11 per cent reduction from January 2022.

Toyota New Zealand Chief Executive Officer, Neeraj Lala says that with a big month in January Toyota has been able to deliver vehicles to customers who have been waiting.

“We would like to thank our customers for their ongoing support, as we start to regain stock allocation and deliver vehicles to customers who have been waiting for a while. We are focusing on getting further stock allocation for the rest of the quarter to continue to meet our customer demand.”

“I am incredibly proud to see that our customer demand continues to swing towards electrified product with almost 50 per cent of our sales in January hybrid electric vehicles.”

“However, our goal has always been depth and breadth of our range to ensure we are meeting the needs of all our kiwi customers, and this includes commercial vehicles like Hilux which meets the needs of a large sector of our customer base.”

“We can still achieve number one for Hilux while maintaining our reduction in CO2 through our balanced portfolio and we will continue to do so throughout the year.”

Toyota New Zealand continues its commitment to a 46 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, while still providing customers with the vehicles they want and need.

The top selling vehicle for January was Hilux with 798 vehicles sold, followed by Corolla and RAV4.

Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of New Vehicles, Steve Prangnell, says that despite the Hilux being the top selling model, Toyota NZ has maintained a reduction in CO2.

“This really demonstrates the effectiveness of Toyota and Lexus having a balanced sales and product portfolio and is a testament to our commitment to reducing our CO2 impact in New Zealand while still providing customers with high quality, reliable, affordable, and safe vehicles.”

“Toyota and Lexus New Zealand is demonstrating that reducing carbon emissions and driving sales can go hand in hand,” says Steve.
