Ducati fashions a Special XDiavel

A collaboration between Ducati and Poltrona Frau has resulted in the XDiavel Nera, the latest model to debut as part of Ducati’s World Première web series. Nera means black in Italian, and naturally that’s the colour of the machine, only the seat colour is variable thanks to Poltrona Frau.

The XDiavel Nera project is a joint effort and therefore a limited production run. Just 500 of the Nera model will be produced, each numbered.

Poltrona Frau was chosen as the partner because the company sees craftsmanship as a distinctive element, supporting it with technological solutions and the use of high quality materials. In other words, shared values between the two Italian companies.

Poltrona Frau makes high-end furniture and has worked with Ducati previously, on a Scrambler project. The Interiors in Motion division also works with others in the automotive sector.

The XDiavel Nera is characterized by the “Black on Black” livery in which gloss and matt black portions alternate for a sportier finish. There’s also a dedicated jet helmet, black of course, which new owners can order with the bike. Brake calipers and engine head covers are in contrasting Ducati Red. The lightened and fully machined forged rims are painted in gloss black.

Poltrona Frau crafts the special seat made of natural soft leather, available in five colours. It is characterised by a series of “X” shapes, engraved by laser. Customers can also select a comfort saddle and a backrest, for pillion comfort and style.

XDiavel features the Testastretta DVT (variable valve timed) 1262cc engine which, in combination with the belt final drive, ensures smooth delivery at low revs and strong performance at higher revs. The engine meets Euro5 configuration and outputs 160hp at 9500rpm and 127Nm at 5000rpm.

Seat height is 755mm and the XDiavel utilises a 240mm wide rear tyre. The maximum lean angle of 40° imbues it with decent handling, unusual in the cruiser sector.

Brakes are Brembo monobloc M50 calipers up front with IMU-based cornering ABS control. The lighting system is full LED with a DRL daytime running light. Other features include Riding Modes, Cruise Control and Ducati Power Launch. Hands-free ignition, a colour TFT and adjustable footpegs round out the highlights.

The Nera model will sit alongside XDiavel Dark and the XDiavel S models. Deliveries begin in major markets this month.
