Trifecta: Van Gisbergen takes a clean sweep of wins in Tasmania

Shane van Gisbergen has taken a third win in Tasmania to take a clean sweep of the race wins in the second round of the championship.

After receiving heavy damage in race 4, Jack Le Brocq’s team were able to repair the car in time to take its front row start on the grid. He went on to take the lead on the opening lap, as Will Davison moved into second place.

Le Brocq lost the lead a lap later after locking the wheels at the hairpin dropping to the back of the pack, putting Davison into the lead, and van Gisbergen into second.

Van Gisbergen then attempted a pass for the lead at the hairpin on lap 3 but couldn’t make it stick, the Kiwi made a second attempt at the final turn, when Hazlewood and Anton de Pasquale followed through as Davison ran wide.

The move shook up the running order at the top of the field with SVG in the lead ahead of de Pasquale and Hazlewood.

Through the pit stop sequence, Davison regained third on the track, dropping Hazlewood back to fourth, while the top two remained unchanged.

With less than ten laps left to run Reynolds closed onto the back of the top four, making a move on the Matt Stone racing driver to take fourth.

A few laps later Davison made a move on his teammate to take second place from de Pasquale.

SVG crossed the line to take his third win of the weekend, ahead of Davison, De Pasquale, Reynolds, and Hazlewood.

“It’s pretty awesome, can’t thank Red Bull Ampol racing enough the car has been good all weekend and Broc’s been up here as well. Just can’t thank the guys enough. Each race we had to work for it, some more good passes there and I hope it was good to watch. Im pumped.

“I was screaming over the radio pretending I had no rears and then made them pit early and then I just went.

“We’ve got some tough competition with those guys”

Heimgartner crossed the line in 24th while Chris Pither climbed back to finish 16th after starting from the back of the pack.
