Suzuki Vitara Hybrid variants join New Zealand lineup

New Hybrid variants of the turbocharged Suzuki Vitara have been added to the brand’s New Zealand lineup, bringing better fuel economy and lower emissions with them.

Joining the five existing models already on sale, three petrol mild hybrids will soon be on offer to Kiwi customers with each being powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine combined with a 48V mild hybrid system, making an overall 95kW and 235Nm.

In the official combined fuel tests, the Vitara Hybrid is at least 15 per cent more economical than a comparable non-Hybrid Vitara while also boasting up to 18 per cent lower CO2 emissions.

A trick feature of the hybrid system is its Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) which assists the engine during take-off and acceleration. When crusing, ISG helps power the additional electrical components and systems like climate control air conditioning, safety features and smartphone connectivity.

Standard equipment on the Hybrids includes hill hold control, reversing camera, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and hands-free calling.

An engine performance monitor in the centre of the instrument panel displays real time information on the move with Hybrid battery status, running performance, fuel economy and a digital clock.

The first model Suzuki New Zealand offers is the Hybrid JX 2WD with a six-speed manual gearbox priced at $39,990. Fuel consumption for the JX comes to 5.0 litres per 100km.

Second up is the Hybrid JLX 2WD with an automatic gearbox, priced just higher at $41,990. The JLX has a fuel consumption of 5.6 litres per 100km.

An all-wheel drive AllGrip variant with an automatic gearbox is also on offer for $44,990 and consumes 6.0 litres of petrol per 100km travelled.

Each model can be specified with an optional two-tone body colour for an additional $800. On road costs are applicable to all three models.

All three Suzuki Vitara Hybrid models qualify for the Government Clean Car Tax Rebate. This is $2851 for the JX 2WD manual, $2181 for the JLX 2WD auto and $1614 for the JLX AllGrip auto.
