Superlight supermoto from Husqvarna

June 10, 2022

Husqvarna has reinvigorated its FS 450 supermoto circuit racer. Finished with new bodywork and improved ergonomics, the FS 450 is enlivened by a fresh 47kW/63bhp 450cc SOHC four-stroke single. The engine itself has been repositioned for improved mass centralisation.

Weighing under 27kg, engine performance characteristics can be fine-tuned using the handlebar-mounted map select switch. Bars by Protaper are three-position adjustable. The switch controls the activation of launch control, traction control, and the new Quickshifter.

Also new is the hydro-formed chro-moly double cradle frame that is said to enhance rider feedback and features improved antisquat behaviour. It is finished in a metallic blue powder coat paint.

A new polyamide-reinforced aluminium subframe is evidently a key component in both handling and ride comfort. Larger footrests are now mounted further inboard for added protection. Also larger is a 7.2L plastic fuel tank.

Other key items include the latest fully adjustable WP XACT suspension, Alpina wheels, a Suter anti-hopping clutch, a lithium-ion battery for the electric starter, and high performance Brembo brakes (four piston radial mount caliper and 310mm disc) and Brembo hydraulic clutch. The gearbox is a five-speeder. Tyres are Metzler Racetec slicks. Seat height is set at 898mm and with all the trick additions and attention to detail, dry weight is an impossibly light 108kg!

Technical accessories like skid plates, high grip seat and Akrapovic pipe, along with apparel will also be available when the machine launches here at the end of the third quarter. The provisional price is $18,689.
