Scooters that are designed to tackle all roads are becoming quite a popular niche overseas, kicking off with Honda’s X-ADV machine. They are designed for tarmac in the main but dual purpose tyres and extended suspension allow for urban adventures (read: gravel roads and tracks). Local pricing for the Peugeot XP400 which is going on sale here early next year kicks off at $16,990. Those ordering early should get their new ride before Christmas.

Peugeot says the XP400 has SUV DNA. There’s 140mm of suspension travel up front, using an inverted fork, and there’s also a pair of 295mm discs with radial-mount calipers for genuine stopping power.
The XP400 is powered by an EU5-ready liquid-cooled 400cc 27kW single offering 38Nm of torque at 5400rpm. This gives it best in class performance, apparently. Features include a five-inch TFT dash, turn-by-turn navigation thanks to i-Connect technology, and enough space under the seat to swallow a full-face helmet. A USB socket allows you to charge your phone on the go.

With the elevated dashboard, you can check riding information without taking your eyes off the road, a passive safety feature.
A range of accessories has been developed for both variants. Included is a crash bar type protection system, fog lights and a top case on its dedicated mounting bracket.
