Peugeot adds 208 hybrid to NZ line up

by Kyle Cassidy
July 23, 2024

The Peugeot 208 hybrid is being added to NZ showrooms, the brand’s first petrol electric offering sans a plug. The 208 GT Hybrid is one of the 48v variety, so a mild hybrid in reality.

Peugeot NZ says the new (mild) hybrid powertrain for 208 underlines the brand’s commitment to sustainability as it aims to electrify all Peugeot models, both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, by 2025.

What is the fuel consumption of the 208 hybrid?

The engine is a 1.2-litre boosted triple, output rated at 100kW with 230Nm of torque, on from 1750rpm. This drives via a six-speed ‘e-DCT’ auto. Fuel consumption is stated at 4.7L/100km with emissions of 105g/km. The 0-100km/h sprint is said to be clicked off in 8.1sec.

This hybrid engine replaces the previous 208’s conventional 1.2, which made 96kW and 230Nm, had a six-speed torque-converter auto and returned 6.3L/100km.

What are the features of the 208 hybrid?

The new 208 GT Hybrid features exterior upgrades such as a black grille with body-colour inserts, full LED headlamps featuring ‘a distinctive night-specific signature’, and a glossy black rear skirt.

The cabin gets customisable ambient lighting and a 10-inch touchscreen with various connectivity solutions including wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also a wireless charger, a smart key, 360 degree camera and voice control.

Safety features include six airbags, lane keeping assist, speed limit recognition, AEB and blind spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise doesn’t make the list but you get Alcantara seat trim, the front pews featuring heating elements.

The yellow/green metallic paint is standard while other colours are cost options ($550 – $950). It comes with a five-year/100,000 km warranty and a fixed cost service plan for three years/45,000km is a further $1890. A panoramic glass roof and 17-inch alloys round out the spec.

What is the price of the Peugeot 208 GT hybrid in NZ?

Thought you’d never ask. It is $45,990, plus on roads.
