MG Motor New Zealand recently announced the pricing and specification of its most powerful model to ever grace our roads, the MG4 XPower.

The new range topper will be available from $69,990, meaning it’s eligible, albeit briefly, for the full Clean Car rebate.

While the affordability of the regular MG4 saw it climb the ranks of the country’s best selling EVs last month, those looking for an extra kick of performance will no doubt be blown away by what the XPower is capable of.

It features a dual electric motor and all-wheel drive powertrain that produces 320kW and 600Nm of torque, propelling the hot hatch from 0 to 100km/h in a claimed 3.8 seconds.

Energy is sourced from a 64kWh battery that can be recharged at up to 140kW when using a DC fast charger. The added performance means range takes a slight hit, coming down to 385km from the standard MG4 Excite’s 450km figure.

In order to accommodate for the extra bump in power, MG has installed a new Dynamic Cornering Control System to ensure maximum traction is maintained at all times.

Upgrades have also been made to the car’s suspension, including recalibrated dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars, and a sharper steering set-up.

As for braking, the orange-painted calipers clamp on a set of 345mm discs at all four corners, meaning it can decelerate from 100 to 0 km/h in a quoted 33.9 metres.

In addition to the performance and handling enhancements, the XPower also receives subtle styling changes like a two-tone black roof, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a new $1k Hunter Green paint colour option among seven others to choose from.

Like all MGs sold in New Zealand, the MG4 XPower will come with a seven-year warranty, and seven years of roadside assistance and warrant of fitness checks.

MG Motor New Zealand is encouraging buyers to register their interest for the model on its website.
