Gordon Murray to reveal T.33 Spider this week

Gordon Murray Automotive is preparing itself to reveal what it calls the “world’s most engaging V12-powered open supercar” later this week in the form of the T.33 Spider.

The hard-topped variant was originally launched as the British carmaker’s entry-level supercar which sold out just one week after it was first shown to the public.

Its no surprise that customers wanted to get their hands on one of the 100 examples slated for production considering the T.33 is designed by arguably one of the greatest road and race car designers of all time, Gordon Murray.

Now the brand has revealed an open-roof version which will allow occupants to enjoy the sweet, screaming sound of its naturally-aspirated 3.9-litre Cosworth GMA.2 V12 revving all the way up to 11,100rpm.

It will likely come in the same flavour as its tin-topped sibling, achieving similar if not the same performance but with a slightly different weight figure.

Due to its mid-engined nature, we presume the roof will have to be removed by hand and stored in the T.33’s frunk or elsewhere as an electronically retractable top doesn’t seem possible.

However, the model was always destined to be a spider according to its creator.

“From the outset of the T.33 programme, I always intended there to be a Spider – in fact, I sketched the Spider before the coupe to ensure the proportions worked,” says Murray.

“And from that first sketch I knew, with its open cockpit and the incredible Cosworth GMA.2 V12 engine right behind you, the T.33 Spider would deliver a truly involving driving experience that’s quite unlike anything else.”

The GMA T.33 Spider will make its global debut at 5pm BST on 4 April 2023 (4am NZST on 5 April 2023).
