ANCAP has awarded the new Nissan Pathfinder with a five-star safety rating after it impressed with high scores in every testing category.

In terms of adult occupant protection, the SUV scored 87 per cent including a “flawless” score in the side impact and oblique pole assessments.

Nissan says a 50 per cent increase in the use of high-strength steel is the reason for the new Pathfinder’s chassis rigidity and force reduction in the event of a collision.

Child occupant protection saw the model achieve a 93 per cent score with top points awarded in the dynamic front and side tests. It also earned 11.8 out of 12 points for child restraint installation.

The Pathfinder did well in the vulnerable road user category, scoring 78 per cent during testing. Contributing to the result is its on-board safety systems which include a 360-degree view monitor that can detect moving objects, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert and more.

Rounding out the SUV’s five-star rating is the safety assist category where it achieved 85 per cent. The model scored perfectly in the occupant status and lane support systems assessments.

The five-star safety rating is a welcome sight for Kiwis as the Nissan Pathfinder will soon be reintroduced to New Zealand after a few years absence.
