Volvo EX90 is World Luxury Car of the Year 2025

by Peter Louisson
April 22, 2025

The electric Volvo EX90 is the 2025 World Luxury Car, edging the Porsche Panamera and Porsche Macan in the final round of judging. The jury comprised almost 100 motoring journalists from over 30 countries.

A sand colour for this EX90.

They said it attained the title for its comfortable and refined interior, advanced safety technology and distinctive Scandinavian design.

The results were announced as part of the New York International Auto Show in Manhattan. The World Car Awards jury, comprising 96 car journalists from 30 countries, evaluated the EX90 during extensive test drives.

“We’re pleased to see the EX90 get the recognition it deserves,” says Håkan Samuelsson, chief executive officer of Volvo Cars. “It was up against some tough competition. This award proves that the EX90 appeals to some of the most demanding customers across the world.”

This one is finished in sand dune exterior too.

The design approach is that form follows function. The fron end is confident but smoothly rounded for improved air flow around the vehicle. EX90 also features LIDAR, an aerodynamic challenge but worth it for the contribution to safety, along with cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors.

Inside the cabin, which is evidently amongst the quietest in the segment, the EX90 introduces new progressive materials. Nordico is a leather-free upholstery with an elegant look, made from recycled materials and natural fibres.

And yet another with sand dune exterior.

The interior LEDs produce a light spectrum close to natural sunlight, while back-lit wood decor adds to the interior ambience.

Despite its seven-seat configuration, EX90 has 324 litres behind the third row and up to 697 litres with five seats in use.

The EX90 is due to go on sale in New Zealand early in 2026, according to Volvo New Zealand.
