Toyota GR Supra bows out in NZ with final Track Edition

by Kyle Cassidy
September 29, 2025

After six years on Kiwi roads, Toyota New Zealand has confirmed the current-generation GR Supra will be discontinued, closing a chapter in the brand’s sports car story.

The farewell comes in the form of six limited-run GR Supra Track Editions, priced at $109,990 drive-away in either manual or automatic guise. Each car carries motorsport-inspired upgrades, including chassis reinforcement, retuned suspension, enhanced differential control, and a larger brake package. Cosmetic tweaks – such as a carbon-fibre ducktail spoiler, aero flaps, matte black 19-inch alloys, and red-painted calipers – further set the Track Edition apart.

Under the bonnet the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six remains, producing 285kW and 500Nm, driving the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential.

Since its 2019 relaunch under the “SUPRA IS BACK” banner, the GR Supra has sold just over 100 units locally, appealing to both long-time fans and new GR converts. Toyota New Zealand Chief Strategic Officer Andrew Davis said the model’s impact went beyond numbers.

“The Supra already had a cult following when the current generation launched, and we’re pleased the GR added new enthusiasts to what has been an amazing sports car. While this chapter closes, the spirit of Supra will continue to live on at the circuit and in the hearts of our fans,” Davis said.

That circuit future is assured: two GR Supra GT4 EVO entries will compete in GT4 racing this summer, while from 2026 a V8-powered GR Supra will line up in the Repco Supercars Championship. At least four cars will be fielded, with Walkinshaw Andretti United running two entries for Chaz Mostert and Kiwi driver Ryan Wood.

Although the road-going Supra is bowing out, Toyota says the model helped raise the profile of its broader GR performance range, paving the way for the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, and GR 86. The philosophy of “making ever-better cars through motorsport” will continue to guide TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s presence in New Zealand showrooms.
