Suzuki reveals new parallel twin ADV and Streetfighter

Suzuki has made hay with its value for money GSX-S models using GSX-R powertrains. And now it has added a completely new version featuring a completely new parallel twin motor, displacing 776cc. That will also power a new VStrom dual purpose bike, both of which should dot down here midway through next year.

They follow a prolonged period of zero new model activity for the brand since the Hayabusa introduction. Both new models bowed at the 2022 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan.

The GSX-8S combines naked sports bike looks with strong performance, nimble handling and optimised comfort. Therefore, the bike should work well for both commuting and sporty weekend runs.

The new parallel-twin features a 270-degree crankshaft and debuts Suzuki Cross Balancer technology which ensures smooth operation and lightweight design.

Maximum output is 61kW (82hp) at 8500rpm, while the torque peak of 78Nm arrives at an easygoing 6800rpm. This ensures flexibility and midrange power that has been the hallmark of the GSX-S machinery. 

Other features include multiple ride modes, three-stage traction control (plus off), ABS, a bi-directional quickshifter and Suzuki’s Easy Start System (a brief push on the starter is all that’s needed to fire up the engine). 

The two-into-one exhaust system features a dual-stage catalytic converter and the engine meets Euro 5 emissions standards. The stubby muffler is the shortest ever mounted to a Suzuki motorcycle, hanging off the right side of the engine.

Securing everything is a brand new steel frame optimised for comfort, stability and agile handling. The swingarm is aluminium, suspension is by KYB, and the Nissin radial-mount monobloc brakes slow cast aluminium wheels that are shod in Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 rubber. Wet weight is a claimed 202kg.

Other features include a slimline 14-litre fuel tank, a five-inch TFT dash, all-LED lighting including vertically oriented headlights and LED daytime running lights.

The GSX-8S is available in blue, white and black hues.

Pricing will be confirmed closer to the midyear launch date.

Also announced at EICMA, Suzuki is releasing the V-Strom 800DE midway through next year, utilising the same new parallel twin 776cc engine as the GSX-8S.

With what Suzuki claims is the most suspension travel and ground clearance of any V-Strom to date (220mm front and rear from fully adjustable Showa gear), it features a steel frame, aggressive styling, wide tapered aluminium handlebars, a 21-inch front wheel and a raft of safety electronics, including a gravel traction control mode. ABS can be switched off at the rear too.

Other items include an electronic throttle, bi-directional quickshifter, radiator guard, 20L fuel tank, easy start system and low rpm assist for easier getaways. There’s also clutch assist to reduce fatigue on long rides. 

Engine output is almost identical to that of the GSX-8S, while wet weight is a claimed 230kg. Spring preload at the rear is via a knurled knob. Up front are dual front disc brakes with 310mm discs. Tyres are Dunlop Trailmax dual-purpose rubber.

Other bits include a high-set beak, three-way adjustable windscreen, grab bars and a rear carrier, a five-inch TFT screen with night and day modes, and a USB port. The lighting and indicators are all-LED. Colour options include yellow, grey and black. Pricing will also be available closer to its release.
