Korean carmaker SsangYong has officially rebranded to KGM Motors in New Zealand, in preparation for the arrival of its new Torres SUV.

While the iconic winged logo will remain the pride of place across the brand’s signage and advertising, Kiwis will, however, have to get used to the text that sits below it which now reads “KGM”.

In addition, the rebrand also introduces a new colour scheme to the local market, alongside a revitalised “look and feel” for the brand.

“We are thrilled to have the chance to start afresh with KGM and will be investing significantly in the brand. We have a lot of faith in the KGM product, which comes with a solid engineering base and produces well-spec’d, reliable vehicles,” says Daile Stephens, KGM New Zealand’s Head of Brand Marketing.

“Our aim is to elevate the offering of innovative KGM products in New Zealand with a refreshed brand identity, breaking away from the ordinary.”

SsangYong New Zealand will officially transition to KGM New Zealand at the end of March, while dealerships will gradually update their signage over the next few months.

The first model set to wear the new name is the Torres, which will arrive in the country at the end of March with both petrol and fully electric drivetrains.

SsangYong was purchased by Korean chemical giant KG Group in mid-2022 which rescued it from bankruptcy, subsequently rebranding the carmaker to KG Mobility.
