Porsche Macan line-up grows

by Kyle Cassidy
July 17, 2024

The new Porsche Macan line-up, the all electric one, is expanding with the German sports car maker announcing a rear-wheel drive entry point.

Also new is a Macan 4S with ‘up to 380kW’ of amp-generated power, and this model fits in between the Macan 4 and the Turbo. The other news is that a new off-road design package is available for all Macan models.

What is the range of the electric Macan?

The new Macan additions take the model line up to four variants. The new entry model, known simply as Macan, has a focus on efficiency and therefore maximum range between charges. The Germans say it ‘is exceptionally efficient, offering a combined WLTP range of up to 641km’.

Macan has a 100kWh (gross) battery and uses the same rear 250kW motor as the Macan 4, the inner workings of which include a ‘highly efficient’ 480-amp pulse inverter. In launch mode, it can produce 265kW while max twist is 563Nm. That is said to allow the Macan to register 100km/h in 5.7sec. The removal of the front motor and associated wiring helps save 110kg from the Macan’s weight. From a standing start, the car reaches the 100 km/h mark in 5.7 seconds.

How fast is the new Macan 4S?

Meanwhile, Porsche has given the Macan 4S a more powerful rear motor (thanks to the addition of a 600-amp pulse inverter). Its output is 330kW while 380kW is available for short periods on ‘overboost’. Activate LC, and it can deliver up to 820Nm to enable a 4.1sec 0-100 run.

The additional energy requirements see the 4S with a combined WLTP range of up to 606 km. Porsche’s electronic damping control is standard, working in conjunction with adaptive air suspension. Added chassis dynamism comes via the fitment of Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) and rear-axle steering. Like other Macans, these models have the same 800-volt electrical architecture allowing for a DC charging capacity of up to 270 kW (10 to 80 per cent in 21 minutes).

Porsche is offering a new optional off-road design package for all models. A re-profiled front bumper increases the approach angle to up to 17.4 degrees with air springs set to max height. The latter has been given an extra 10mm of travel, raising the ground clearance to a maximum of 195mm.

How much is the new Porsche Macan?

With the new entry level Macan, the all electric SUV now starts from $159,900, while Porsche asks $182,500 for the Macan 4S. Deliveries are expected in the first quarter of 2025. Your other options include the Macan 4 at $166,500 or the Turbo at $233,000.
