Porsche Cayenne GTS arrives in Q3

The 2023 revision of its SUV line-up is almost complete with the launch of the Porsche Cayenne GTS models. First examples are due for delivery in Q3 of this year.

GTS in Porsche lingo stands for Gran Turismo Sport. Translation: added dynamism and long-distance capability. Cayenne models tread a line between sports car and SUV. The GTS models, however, are biased more towards on-road capability.

Chassis technology from the Cayenne Turbo GT

The GTS-specific chassis has a 10-millimetre reduced ride height, and adaptive air suspension as standard. This includes Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus). The Porsche Traction Management (PTM) and optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), are biased towards optimal on-road performance.

Two-valve damper technology improves responsiveness, while two-chamber air suspension imparts a more dynamic spring rate but retains occupant comfort as a priority. The front axle pivot bearings are borrowed from the Turbo GT. They increase the negative camber of the wheels by 0.58 degrees, for more agile handling.

Added power for Porsche Cayenne GTS

An extensive revision of the 4.0L twinturbo V8 has resulted in efficiency gains, with Porsche technicians conjuring up 30kW more power. The engine now produces 368kW and an extra 40Nm, out to 660Nm. Revisions to the eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission mean shorter shift times in the Sport and Sport Plus modes.

The Cayenne GTS has a 0 to 100km/h claim of 4.4sec, down 0.1sec on its predecessor, on the way to a vmax of 275km/h, up 5km/h.

Exclusive Porsche Cayenne GTS design and equipment

All of Porsche’s GTS models are unique. The Cayenne variant features ‘GTS’ lettering down its flanks, and a different front end with bigger cooling air ducts and dark-tinted headlights. There are also red brake callipers. Side skirts, front inlays, side window trims and wheel arch extensions feature high gloss black paint. The sports exhaust tailpipes receive a dark bronze tone. Wheels are 21-inch RS Spyder-designs in anthracite grey.

Other standard items on the Porsche Cayenne GTS include a fixed panoramic glass roof and an adaptive extending rear spoiler. A Sports exhaust system with centrally positioned tailpipes is an option, as is a lightweight roof and a carbon rear diffuser. These can reduce the weight of the vehicle by up to 25kg.

Special interior

The cabin of the Cayenne GTS features a heated GT sports steering wheel while Race-Tex suede-like fabric covers the roof lining, armrests, door panels, and the centre panels of the eight-way-adjustable sports seats. The side bolsters are beefier for additional lateral support when cornering.

A curved digital instrument cluster is standard while a passenger display is a cost option. Other features include a Bose surround sound system and 64-colour ambient lighting.

Availability and pricing

The new Cayenne GTS (SUV) carries a sticker price of $249,900 while the Cayenne GTS Coupe kicks off at $252,400. Both models are available for order now, with first deliveries anticipated in Q3 of 2024.
