Polestar 2 updated and ready to order

Polestar has announced its (mildly) updated Polestar 2 is now available to order in New Zealand, with the first shipment due to arrive in September (subject to shipping, mind you). There has been strong demand for the Polestar 2, the local distributor saying its allocation of the current Polestar 2 sold out just three weeks after opening its first ‘Polestar Space’ in Newmarket, Auckland.

Bruce Fowler, Polestar New Zealand Brand Manager, says, “After selling out the first year of Polestar 2 inside six months, it is great to know that the updated Polestar 2 is on the way. Along with new exterior colours and wheel designs, the updated Polestar 2 will be even more environmentally friendly, thanks to a continuing focus on reducing greenhouse emissions.”

They say the updated Polestar 2 will be ‘another step towards the target of creating a truly climate-neutral car by 2030, to halve carbon emissions per sold car between 2020 and 2030 and reach climate neutrality across its value chain by 2040’.

Helping this cause is material sourcing. For example, the firm says the battery tray used in Polestar 2 models now has a ‘CO2e’ reduction of 750kg per car as the aluminium used in its construction comes from smelters that use renewable energy. 

Polestar is planning to replace the aluminium in the wheels with low-carbon material that they say will result in a further 600kg ‘CO2e’ reduction per car. 

Polestar states it has partnered with Circulor to account for its ‘supply chain traceability’. 

Buyers that opt for the Long-range, Dual motor Polestar 2 with the Performance Pack can now get a Polestar Engineered Performance Software upgrade which delivers an added 50kW and 20Nm, taking the power to 350kW with the 0-100km/h time now a claimed 4.4sec. 

As to the visual upgrades for the ‘new’ model, these include two new colours, new wheel designs, and interior options including a Nappa leather upholstery with ‘greater sustainability credentials’.
