Motorsport Diary: Kiwis racing overseas this weekend

It’s another big weekend for Kiwis!

Shane van Gisbergen returns to the Xfinity Series at Sonoma Raceway following his maiden win at Portland last weekened.

IndyCar is also back in business, with Scott Dixon, Scott McLaughlin and Marcus Armstrong heading to Road America. Callum Hedge, in Indy NXT, and Liam Sceat, in USF Pro 2000, will be in action at the same event.

Ryan Yardley and Madeline Stewart will be racing in the Carrera Cup North America in support of the Canadian Grand Prix.

In Australia, Marco Giltrap and Clay Osborne team up for the second round of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia at The Bend

Shane van Gisbergen’s space in the Xfinity Series Playoffs is secure following his win in Portland and sits 14th in the standings ahead of the 14th race of 2024.

The Kiwi returns to his familiar WeatherTech livery for the 79-lap race on the 1.99-mile (3.20km), 12-turn circuit.

Scott Dixon enters this weekend’s round in the lead of the IndyCar Series following his second victory of 2024 last weekend in Detroit. The win moved him to nine behind AJ Foyt’s all-time record.

Scott McLaughlin is eighth in the standings, while Marcus Armstrong climbed to 13th following his maiden podium, which also came in Detroit.

Callum Hedge sits sixth in the Indy NXT standings ahead of this weekend’s single-race round at Road America.

The Porsche Carrera Cup North America is racing in support of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Kiwi Ryan Yardley is currently fourth in the standings, having taken three podiums in the opening four race.

Rookie Madeline Stewart is 16th and yet to score championship points in a competitive and large field.

It’s cruch time in USF Pro 2000, with the top five in the standings entering the three-race round seperated by only 30 points.

Kiwi Liam Sceats is fourth in the championship, 24 points behind leader Nikita Johnson.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia heads down under for a round at The Bend in South Australia.

Clay Osborne and Marco Giltrap join forces for two 50-minute races over the weekend, having swept the opening round at Sepang.
