Mazda is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Mazda6 with a run of limited edition examples which are now available in New Zealand.

The nameplate started its life back in 2002 when the first-generation model was launched in Japan, coinciding with the introduction of the Zoom-Zoom brand message.

Since then, the Mazda6 has gone on to win multiple awards from various motoring media outlets, including 20 in New Zealand alone.

The 20th Anniversary Edition has been created in celebration of its award winning ways and is available in both sedan and wagon body styles, featuring a number of unique design elements.

Under the bonnet sits a turbocharge 2.5-litre four-cylinder which has been refined to make 173kW while torque remains at 420Nm. However, the engine produces 8Nm more torque at 4250rpm. Attached to the back is a six-speed automatic transmission which has also been fettled with to provide a “more direct” upshift.

The commemorative model will be available exclusively in one of Mazda’s newest body colours, Rhodium White metallic. Other exclusive design features include a new, high gloss silver for the aluminium wheels and grille mesh, finishing both of these elements in the same colour to give the entire exterior a luxurious look, along with a commemorative emblem on the exterior.

Tan upholstery lines the interior of the 20th Anniversary Edition model, which is made up of faux suede and Nappa leather. A 20th anniversary logo also sits proudly on both front seat’s headrests.

Other appointments include an 11 speaker Bose audio system, power operated heated and cooling front seats, wireless phone charging, 360-degree view monitor, glass power sliding and tilt sunroof, heated steering wheel and heated rear seats.

Mazda New Zealand Managing Director, David Hodge, said the Mazda6 commemorative model is a tribute to the importance of the Mazda6 nameplate.

“Mazda6 has captivated driving enthusiasts with its driving performance, dynamics and handling and this 20th Anniversary Edition is a special nod to those customers who share our passion for driving for the fun of it.”

The Mazda6 20th Anniversary Edition is available from local Mazda dealerships across New Zealand now, priced at $60,990 for the sedan and $61,990 for the wagon, excluding on road costs.
