Lego P1 is the McLaren you can afford

by Kyle Cassidy
July 11, 2024

Ever wanted a McLaren P1 but simply weren’t born with the talent to make serious money (or into the right family)? Lego to the rescue, today announcing the Technic McLaren P1.

The P1 was a hybrid you wanted to own, McLaren one of the first to embrace the petrol electric powertrain to boost performance rather than aid economy.

How big is the Lego P1?

The plastic McLaren is 59cm long, 25cm wide and 14cm high.

The latest P1 is part of the Lego Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series, the 1:8 scale Technic version consists of 3,893 pieces and each kit features a unique serial number which unlocks ‘special behind-the-scenes content’.

The Technic P1 has a seven-speed transmission with two shifter drums, suspension, V8 engine with moving pistons, an adjustable rear wing, and opening dihedral doors.

The model was said to be created by the Technic design team in close collaboration with McLaren Automotive and both teams ‘were focused on implementing as much cutting-edge functionality in the model as possible’.

Kasper Rene Hansen, Designer, Lego Group said; “From the exterior with aerodynamic shapes to the interior and V8 piston engine – the real McLaren P1 is an incredible car. We wanted to capture these details in the best way possible with our Lego Technic model and we did not want to compromise in any way

“Therefore, we worked on multiple variations of the car to test different designs. We also faced a huge challenge with the iconic butterfly doors because they needed a new mechanism to stay open. It was a great experience to recreate the McLaren P1 and I’m hoping all supercar enthusiasts out there are ready to explore the details and intricacies of the real McLaren P1 in Lego Technic form.”

Okay so how much is the Lego McLaren P1?

You can pre-order yours now from the lego store, it costing $NZ749.  Apparently, ehen purchasing the set between 1st – 7th August, Lego Insiders will receive the Lego Technic McLaren P1 Logo as a gift with purchase. What are you waiting for?
