Ineos reveals its first fully electric off-roader, the Fusilier

After announcing the development of its first electric off-roader last year, Ineos has given us our first glimpse of the model, dubbed Fusilier.

The new four-wheel drive is also the third model to come out of the chemical company turned carmaker, with its name taking after members of the British army armed with fusils (light muskets).

Unlike its larger internal combustion-powered siblings, the Grenadier and Quartermaster, the Fusilier sits on an all-new electric skateboard platform developed in conjunction with Magna – a producer of automotive parts for several international carmakers.

While the new fourbie was only meant to be a fully electric model from the get-go, Ineos founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe quickly realised it needed to be more versatile incase charging isn’t an option for customers who like to venture off the beaten path.

It’s for that reason the Fusilier will also be offered with a “low emission” range extender consisting of a small petrol engine that’ll kick in when the battery needs topping up.

Nothing has been said about either of the two versions’ technical specifications yet, but Ineos was kind enough to show off the Fusilier’s no-nonsense design.

The new model looks similar to its founding sibling, the Grenadier, with its Land Rover Defender-inspired design shining through in a smaller and lower body.

Alas, this is an EV, so work has been done to streamline its design, including the smoothening of body lines, the addition of active grille shutters, and door hinges that have been recessed to help with airflow.

Further details about the Ineos Fusilier will be confirmed by the third quarter of this year along with launch timing and notice of local availability.
