Global sales growth for Lexus in a tough 2024

Lexus reports that its 2024 global sales results for the period from January to December 2024 reached a record high of 851,214 units. That represents a 3.3 per cent increase compared with the previous year.

The growth reflected strong demand, particularly in North America (+6.7 per cent to 380,000) and to a lesser degree in Europe (+19 per cent to 83,000). Lexus reports that the recovery of stable parts supply contributed to increased global sales. 

Lexus customers took to the new LBX compact SUV, and there were strong sales of the core RX and NX models. 

Battery EV (BEV) models, such as the “RZ” and “UX 300e,” also achieved strong sales. There was a year-on-year growth of 19 per cent. That contributed to the electrified vehicle to non-electrified ratio reaching a record-high 52 per cent of total Lexus sales.

The Lexus range of electrified vehicles is now the broadest it has ever been, starting with the recently introduced LBX, moving through a range of SUVs and into the performance coupes. 

This expansion continues into 2025 with the addition of the new NX 450h+ Limited and the first plug-in hybrid variant in the RX range. A special edition RX 500h Black Line will also debut.

The global sales result comes after Lexus in New Zealand announced its own record breaking vehicle registrations in 2024.  Lexus locally is the second highest selling luxury brand in New Zealand, and last year achieved the best passenger sales in the sector.

Total Lexus registrations in New Zealand have grown from 1,022 in 2022 to a new record of 1,328 in 2024. 

Lexus New Zealand Vice President Andrew Davis says Davis acknowledged the commitment to the brand from the Lexus dealership partners during a tough year economically.

“We must also thank Lexus customers for being discerning and understanding the value and long-term satisfaction that purchasing a new Lexus brings,” said Davis.
