Dixon P2 in latest Indy 500 practice

by Zane Shackleton
May 20, 2022

Scott Dixon continues to impress in the build-up to next weekend’s Indy 500, setting the second-fastest lap in the latest practice session.

Dixon was fastest for most of the day before a late lap by Takuma Sato bolted the two-time race winner to the top of the timesheets.

Dixon focused most of the day on race setup, so he wasn’t concerned about not finishing the fastest. He was also 11th on the non-tow leader board.

“Lots of running for everybody,” he said. “For us, race running for the majority. Pretty happy in some situations.

“Generally, I think all of us at Ganassi had a pretty smooth day.”

He isn’t wrong, either. Three Chip Ganassi cars were in the top ten, including NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson who was fifth quickest.

Team Penske didn’t feature anywhere in the overall standings. Instead, the team focused on making their cars fast without the tow assist.

Will Power posted the fastest non-tow lap of the day. His teammates Scott McLaughlin and Josef Newgarden were fifth and seventh, respectively.

Tomorrow sees the field hit the track for Fast Friday and is the last practice session before qualifying.
