BRZ is Back Briefly

Subaru is bringing in a limited number of its BRZ tS sports cars so if you’ve half a mind order now because only 10 are available.

BRZ tS comes only in this WR blue.

The tS version is the top of the line, performance-honed variant, arrives in April and the cost is $59,990. You can have it any colour so long as it is WR blue. And the only transmission is a shift-it-yourself version with six speeds.

Any tranny so long as it's this six-speed manual.

This range topper features STI-tuned front and rear suspension dampers to make the most of its light weight, and low centre of gravity. High performance gold Brembo brakes with four-piston front callipers, and uprated pads and rotors enhance stopping power and pedal feel. The BRZ tS also features special 18-inch dark grey metallic alloy wheels. They’re shod with 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot 4 tyres to make the most of that rear-wheel drive experience.

General Manager of Subaru New Zealand, Tim Barns-Lawton, commented: “The BRZ has historically been hailed as a driver’s car thanks to its superb engineering. We welcome BRZ back to New Zealand and are excited to be bringing in the top-of-the-range tS model. It’s for Kiwi drivers wanting to experience the best performing and handling BRZ of all time!”

Here is the tS badging, as suggested in text.

Pick the special BRZ by its front and rear tS badging and a seamlessly integrated red BRZ logo in the front headlights. There are also crystal black silica door mirrors and matching shark fin antenna.

Special cabin

BRZ tS features a bordeaux and black Ultrasuede and leather-accented interior, complete with STI embossed front seats. These help keep you in place during spirited driving. The cabin also features an STI red start button and an exclusive instrument cluster bearing the STI logo and bordeaux highlights.

Mmmm, bordeaux.

Furthermore, each vehicle will have a numbered presentation key box, similar to the WRX special editions.

Hmm, what's that stick like thing beside the handbrake?

Like the recent WRX Todoroki, this Subaru features EyeSight Driver Assist technology, despite having a manual transmission. This upgrade marks a significant milestone in Subaru’s commitment to safety. The company is working towards a goal of zero fatalities in their vehicles by 2030.

Lots of sporting bits and bobs here, the pedals especially fetching.

Safety and convenience features in this BRZ include,Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Sway Warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Pre-Collision Braking System, Pre-Collision Brake Assist and Brake Light Recognition.

A better look at the Brembos and the wheels.

Barns-Lawton notes: “The addition of EyeSight Driver Assist technology into manual transmission variants enhances the BRZ range. Not only does this offer more specification for customers, but also reaffirms Subaru’s continuous commitment to prioritising vehicle safety.”

Here is the BRZ hooning around some track.
