Chief executive departs NZ Motor Trade Association

Words: Matthew Hansen

by Matthew Hansen
December 17, 2021

The Motor Trade Association has confirmed that chief executive Craig Pomare is set to leave the organisation at the end of a near eight-year tenure.

“It’s a measure of how successful and well-regarded Craig is that he has been head-hunted to lead a larger membership organisation,” says MTA President Bob Boniface.

“We are extremely sorry to see Craig go but at the same time immensely grateful for his leadership of MTA, first as General Manager Membership Services, and latterly as Chief Executive. Craig leaves with our congratulations and very best wishes.”

Pomare has held the chief executive role from 2016 onwards, overseeing the creation of the MTA’s eight regions, and making changes that resulted in a five-time increase in events for MTA members.

“It’s been a pleasure and a privilege,” says Pomare.

“The decision to leave was incredibly difficult. I’ve loved the time I’ve spent with MTA, meeting members up and down the country, and being part of an organisation that is at the heart of New Zealand.

“I’m very proud of the team, grateful to the Board, and I know MTA is in excellent hands.”

Pomare will leave the firm on January 21. After that he will take up the chief executive position at the Police Credit Union. The MTA is currently on the hunt for an interim chief executive.

“I can assure members that all the work that is underway and planned will continue with interruption,” says Boniface.

“In the meantime, I’m sure all members will join me in congratulating Craig and wishing him well.”
