2024 Toyota Hilux facelift front three quarter view

Toyota has revealed an updated version of one of its most cherished models, the Hilux, which has been given a facelift, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and new interior tech.

The new look marks the third facelift for the current generation Hilux which was first launched in 2015, with the new design gaining sharper edges and an overall more rugged look.

While the styling of the headlights remains the same, the grille on the other hand looks drastically different. The same can be said for the outer bumper sections that house the fog lamps on certain variants.

SR grades will come equipped with a silver lower bumper, while the SR5 gets a black upper grille mould, dark-tinted LED headlight cluster, as well as gloss black fog lamp bezels, mirror caps, and door handles.

The new Hilux isn’t just all looks though as it will also introduce a 48-volt mild-hybrid system on specific trims, those of which have yet to be outlined by Toyota New Zealand.

What we do know is that the hybrid, which is made up of a battery and electric motor-generator, will work in conjunction with a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine and a six-speed automatic gearbox, maintaining a braked towing capacity of 3500kg.

According to overseas specifications, hybrid Hiluxes will also come with Multi-Terrain Select, allowing the driver to choose from six different driving modes.

Select models such as the SR5 and GR Sport will also come fitted with a wireless charging pad and two rear USB-C ports on double cab variants.

Toyota New Zealand expects that the mild-hybrid Hilux will be in the hands of customers as early as the first quarter of this year. We anticipate that local pricing and specifications for the updated model will be released shortly.
