Most of the ID talk lately has been of the .2 supermini. However, it’s the closely related .2 all-electric alternative to the T-Cross that will debut first. All three are due to attend the upcoming Munich motor show.

And in the meantime, Volkswagen has released a teaser sketch of the ID.2X. Evidently the display vehicle won’t quite be production ready and the sketch is clearly a design rendering so the production version won’t be quite as radical. The finished item is due to go on sale sometime next year, probably in the first half of 2026.
The ID.2X is clearly a high-riding sib to the new ID.2 supermini. It will compete with Renault 4 E-Tech and Ford Puma Gen-E.

The first blackened teaser image (above) was shared in late 2023. That revealed a profile similar to that of the ID.2all concept. So short overhangs, and pumped wheel arches. The latest images show a more upright front end that reminds of both the T-Cross and the Amarok ute.
The rear image reveals an illuminated VW badge and a three-slot design on the C pillar, like that of the ID. Buzz. The concept also features beefy wheel arch flares and bumpers for a wide and more grounded stance.

Two other related small vehicles are soon to debut from the VW Group, being the Cupra Raval supermini (above) and the Skoda Epiq crossover (below). All four ride on the MEB Entry platform and production will take place in Spain.

Volkswagen is also working on an electric city car dubbed the ID. EVERY1 that uses the same platform. It should go on sale in 2027, and promises to be a cost leader in the EV world.

Once it goes on sale, the ID.2X will come with the choice of 38kWh and 58kWh battery packs. That means a range of around 450km per charge for the bigger pack, and a sub-30min 10-80 per cent top-up time.
