Max Verstappen has pulled off yet another upset in the 2025 F1 season, beating both McLarens after starting from third on the grid.

The flying Dutchman managed to get past both McLarens during the 57-lap thriller, leaving the championship race wide open going into the final Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi next weekend.

The result from Qatar now puts Verstappen in second position in the championship standings, twelve points behind Lando Norris. Piastri is now in third position, four points short of Max.

“We stay in the fight until the end,” Max told Reuters in an interview following the race.

“It’s still possible now,” he added, referencing the comeback he has had since he was all-but ruled out of championship contention earlier this year.

Other notable finishers on the night include Carlos Sainz, who managed to put his Williams in third position, relegating Norris to fourth.

Liam Lawson claimed two valuable championship points with a ninth-position finish. His Racing Bulls teammate Isack Hadjar wasn’t able to finish the race.

Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top ten.
