Tucson facelift sees Hyundai’s medium SUV take on Series II status

Hyundai New Zealand is about to launch a face-lifted Tucson, to be known as Series II. Key features include a powerful and efficient hybrid powertrain, and upgrades in safety, design, multimedia and connectivity.

Old versus new here.

A refreshed exterior includes a new grille, and redesigned LED headlights. Inside, the cabin features new multimedia and driver display screens while the gear selector relocates to the steering column.

Expect more interior space thanks to a stretched wheelbase. This manifests as better second row dimensions and increased cargo capacity.

Lots of shiny new screens in updated Tucson.

Tech-savvy owners will appreciate the larger 12.3-inch high-definition touchscreen with intuitive controls, wireless smartphone integration and a redesigned graphic interface.

For the first time, the new Tucson comes standard with a 1.6T Hybrid powertrain. The result is a drop in emissions and improved fuel efficiency, balancing performance and sustainability. HTRAC All Wheel Drive is available on selected variants, designed for off-road sorties.

Oh so arty a shot.

New Tucson gets the latest SmartSense safety technology, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA). These features are standard across all variants.

The range topper is the N Line Limited model, which boasts a unique grille, aerodynamic accents, and larger alloy wheels. Inside is Alcantara and leather trim with red stitching, a perforated leather steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, surround-view monitor, and a premium Bose audio system.

Ah, sunset over Tucson.

Scott Kelsey, CEO of Hyundai New Zealand, commented “The Tucson Series II represents some significant improvements over its predecessor.

“With its enhanced safety features, striking design, and cutting-edge technology, coupled with the introduction of the highly regarded 1.6T Hybrid powertrain as standard, we believe the Tucson Series II sets a new standard in the Medium SUV space”.

Shot through glass, never a great look.

Updated Tucson goes on sale in April 2025 priced from $54,990 plus ORCs. The top N Line Limited sells for $71,990, as does the Limited. In between these top of the range models is the Elite ($60,990). Those placing a deposit before 31 March 2025 are eligible for an exclusive launch offer which includes a five-year/150,000 km warranty programme, three-year service plan and the option of a 7.9 per cent finance rate.
