The more things change, the more they stay the same. Triumph is back in the same building as Harley Davidson again, just as they were a decade ago in Newmarket with the same dealers.

The new store, dubbed Auckland Triumph, is located at 521 Mt Wellington Highway, long the south side home of Harley Davidson.
Auckland Triumph will offer the full range of its motorcycles, parts and accessories, branded apparel, and authorised servicing.

“We’re excited to welcome back the Pratt family in this new era as Auckland Triumph joins the Triumph Motorcycles New Zealand dealer network,” said Leigh Beckhaus. She is General Manager at Triumph Motorcycles NZ.
“This new dealership represents a major step in strengthening our presence in the Auckland market. It gives riders south of the Harbour Bridge direct access to everything Triumph.”

Greg Pratt, Dealer Principal at Auckland Triumph, expressed his enthusiasm about rekindling the dealership’s relationship with the iconic British marque.
“Our connection with Triumph stretches back to the early 1970s,” he said.
“So, when the opportunity arose to represent the brand once more, it was a natural fit. We’ve always aligned ourselves with brands we’re genuinely passionate about. And Triumph is undoubtedly one we’re proud to have back in our showroom.”

Triumph and Harley Davidson were once available from a shared dealership in Newmarket until Harley mandated solus-brand showrooms only. Since then the American giant has fallen on tough times, unable to find a way out of its funk. That’s possibly because in hard times people don’t have the kind of spare money Harley is asking for its line-up of predominantly large cruisers. Why they didn’t reprise their hot-selling 500 and 750 V-twins is a mystery, instead rebadging Chinese QJ Motor/Benellis as their entry-level machines. Badge engineering doesn’t quite cut it with Harley customers who want American iron.

Meantime, Triumph added Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X LAMS machines, both of which were great affordable bikes. They deservedly sold well and have underpinned the brand during the global slowdown. At least two more new models are coming based on those mechanicals, one a shrunken Thruxton.
The brand also has a range of big modern classics, like Bonneville T120 and Speed Twin 1200. And a line-up of inline three-cylinder offerings as well, like the Street Triple 765 and Tiger 900 ADV. More recently, Triumph has added a range of competition-ready TF off-road machines.
All of these are on show and on sale in the Auckland Triumph store at 521 Mt Wellington Highway. For more go here.
