Toyota NZ slims Camry down to ZR model only

Toyota New Zealand is refining its Camry offering to focus on the executive-level ZR.

This move reflects evolving customer preferences for SUVs. However, it also ensures Toyota continues to deliver a large, well specified and economical hybrid sedan for those that don’t want to move with the flock.

Despite declining sedan sales, Toyota New Zealand will continue to offer the Camry, albeit in just the single ZR grade. Production of the GX and SX for this market will cease in October 2025.

There are still those who value the handling and appearance of sedan over an SUV. Camry offers a refined driving experience while its spacious interior and ride comfort. Fuel efficiency has made it a favourite amongst rental and taxi operators. Toyota feels shifting preferences now position the Camry as a package for “more discerning sedan customers.”

Toyota New Zealand Chief Strategy Officer, Andrew Davis, commented: “Camry is the only remaining model in our medium sedan sales segment. It is a segment that has declined steadily as customers shift to SUVs.

“The ZR grade remains the most popular. We’ve listened to our customers and will be keeping the ZR in our portfolio”.

Powered by a 2.5L petrol hybrid engine with an e-CVT transmission, fuel efficiency is a quoted 4.5L per 100kms.

Features include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, sports ZR styling package and leather-accented seating. There’s also dual-zone climate control, and a head-up display.

Gold colour surely has better resale given the price of the metal at present.

Featuring the latest Toyota Safety Sense technology, Camry carries a five-star ANCAP crash rating. This suite includes a Pre-Collision System with AEB, Intersection Collision Avoidance Support, and Emergency Steering Assist. Drivers also benefit from a Driver Monitor Camera, Adaptive Cruise with Indicator-Linked Control, Lane Tracing Assist with Lane Departure Alert, and an Emergency Driving Stop System.

Toyota says that with its blend of performance, luxury, and advanced safety, the Camry ZR remains a sedan that’s optimised for those who value confidence, comfort, and style on road. Pricing is $57,990 drive away.
