Todoroki celebrates 30 years of WRX

by Kyle Cassidy
October 7, 2024

It’s time for another special edition Subaru WRX, this one called the Todoroki. It celebrates 30 years of the WRX. They must mean 30 years of WRX in NZ, as the first Impreza WRX was released in Japan late in 1992.

Anyway, according to Subaru NZ; “Todoroki means ‘roar’ but also translates to ‘well-known’ or ‘famous’ which all adds up to this WRX exuding some serious x-factor.”

They continue; “The Subaru WRX symbolises power and recognition. Its signature Boxer engine’s rumble echoes the kanji’s meaning of a thunderous roar, while its global presence cements it as a well-known icon in the automotive world.”

What is the NZ price of the WRX Todoroki?

These will be priced at $64,990. Subaru New Zealand’s General Manager, Tim Barns-Lawton, said: “With a legacy built on rally performance and thrilling drives, the WRX commands attention wherever it goes. Embodying the essence of Todoroki, it continues to resonate with car enthusiasts worldwide.”

Just ten of these Todoroki models will be available in New Zealand, all equipped with a manual transmission, and all painted in WR Blue.

What’s special about the WRX Todoroki?

Starting with a base WRX manual (apparently no longer available in NZ), Subaru Corporation has added bits and pieces to create a quasi-STI. Todoroki benefits from the addition of special Recaro seats (could be the last of their kind, given the company’s woes) and special 19-inch wheels. The latter come wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S007 tyres.

Behind the alloys are six-pot Brembos up front (two-piston Brembos on the rear) which clamp drilled rotors. It all rides on ‘specifically tuned’ steering and suspension components, which include dual-pinion electric power steering and optimised springs and dampers. Finishing off the look is a big STI-style rear spoiler.

Owners will also receive an exclusive STI watch and a numbered presentation key box.

If the Todoroki sounds like a bit of you, pre-order yours now at subaru.co.nz/wrxtodoroki or by heading to your local Authorised Subaru Centre.
