The quickest Model Y yet has been confirmed for New Zealand, with Tesla setting the sticker for the new Performance variant at $100,900.
The facelifted twin-motor Performance model turns the wick up considerably on the Long Range AWD, swapping out its 280kW set-up for a pair of Performance 4DU motors producing 343kW. That translates to a 0–100km/h time of 3.3 seconds, making it quicker off the line than a Porsche 911 GT3, BMW M5 or Audi RS6 — all at a fraction of the cost. Top speed is quoted at 250km/h.

Tesla says the Performance benefits from a new high-density battery cell. Despite the extra power, it can still travel up to 576km on a charge, not far off the other Model Y variants. The chassis has been given the same adaptive dampers fitted to the Model 3 Performance, retuned to suit the heavier Y, along with a sports suspension set-up, staggered tyres and upgraded brakes with red calipers.

Styling cues are subtle but purposeful: an aero-optimised front bumper, rear diffuser, carbon-fibre wing, 21-inch alloys and those distinctive red stoppers. Inside, the Performance gains a larger 16-inch high-resolution touchscreen and new sports seats up front, which are both heated and ventilated with extra bolstering.
Production is centred at Tesla’s Brandenburg plant in Germany, with the Performance model launching first in Europe and the Middle East before reaching markets further afield. Kiwi buyers can now order one locally at $100,900.
