Tesla Cybertruck has been doing the rounds down under

The Tesla Cybertruck tour that dotted down in Australia appears to be over. Now the left hook dual-motor vehicle seems to have ended up here on the final leg of its tour.

Cybertruck cold weather testing.

Dubbed Cybertruck Tour Down Under 2024, the reveal in the Antipodes comes after Tesla halted local Cybertruck orders in 2022. Back then, Australia was the country that posted the third-greatest number of deposits.

Check out our review of the facelifted Tesla Model 3.

Now it seems the electric 4×4 dual-cab on sale in America may be heading to other markets. Maybe even little ol’ New Zealand is included. You can ‘learn more’ about the vehicle on the local Tesla website. But you cannot order one, like you can for the other two models in the line-up.

Straight out of a sci-fi movie so you can understand why folks want 'em.

Tesla has been somewhat reluctant to promote Cybertruck for RHD markets due to the expense involved in tooling up. But evidently the regional tour has already taken place in Japan and Thailand. It had been been ruled out for Europeans but things sometimes change.

In Australia a left-hand drive dual-motor variant has been doing the rounds in NSW, Victoria and Queensland. But not to the far-flung states evidently as it has already been spotted here in Auckland on the last leg of its tour.

Even if Tesla did green-light RHD production, customers probably wouldn’t see their new ride for a few years. That’s because it is sold out in the US until at least this year.

It won’t come cheap either, as the 441kW dual-motor vehicle on the promotional tour costs the equivalent of $A120k in North America. This can evidently get to 100 in 4.1sec, and has a circa 550km battery range. It can also haul up to 5000kg.

While a less expensive 235kW single-motor variant is promised in the US for this year, there’s also a three-motor $A152,000 ‘Beast’ version making 630kW and going illegal in just 2.7sec.
