Speed Twin 1200 Will Soon Have An RS Counterpart

Triumph Motorcycles has announced significant updates to its Speed Twin 1200. Further, it is launching a new Speed Twin 1200 RS, a more focused and engaging model with sharper responses. Expect them here by Christmas.

The Speed Twin 1200 features myriad enhancements. Ergonomics change with slightly higher bars that are sited further forwards. This imparts a more open, spacious feel while riding. Triumph has also upgraded the Marzocchi forks and rear suspension units. This evidently results in cornering that Triumph says is better balanced, and more confidence-inspiring. Ride comfort is evidently smoother too.

This is the RS in action.

There’s more performance on tap, with an extra 4kW of peak power available (78kW at 7750rpm) Peak torque is 112Nm. Optimised Cornering ABS and TC help to keep the bike in the upright position on road. New Triumph-branded radial calipers acting on twin 320mm discs mean improved stopping power. Not that it was exactly wanting before. Metzeler Sportec M9RR tyres are standard.

Stylemas should put the RS on its nose.

The styling is fresh too, a contemporary sports design with modern classic design DNA. The new tank is more sculpted, with raked lines and deep front cutouts, while the flip-up filler cap is different. Many classic-inspired details are refined and updated, including new black powder-coated engine casings, and more compact silencers.

The round headlight now has an LED unit with a new DRL light signature. The bike’s one-piece bench seat is shallower and more sculpted, enhancing the sports styling further. It is narrower at the front, making standover easier. New cast aluminium wheels round out the refresh. For the Speed Twin 1200, two split-colour designs distinguish the top model, or there’s a classically inspired Aluminium Silver option. New LCD and TFT displays employ a circular dial, improving visibility and functionality while retaining the Speed Twin’s timeless look.

The new RS model offers riders a bit more of everything, including an extra ride mode, Sport (above Rain and Road). With a sportier riding position (rear-set footpegs), the RS adds fully adjustable Marzocchi forks, top-spec Öhlins rear suspension units, and Brembo Stylema calipers. Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tyres are standard while a quickshifter is included for the first time on a Modern Classic. The RS seat gains a sporty and stylish finish. The bike itself comes in two colour choices, Orange or Black, both with RS decals in gold.

This TFT look is new too.

Triumph’s Chief Product Officer Steve Sargent said “The updates to the new Speed Twin 1200 are a significant evolution for this much-loved model. And we’ve made sure we retain the superior handling and classic style that everyone admires, while introducing extra power and technology that improves the riding experience seamlessly.”

Nice detailing as usual on Triumph product.

Over 50 genuine accessories are available for the Speed Twin 1200s, including clip-on bars, a quilted seat or a seat cowl for that café racer look.

Local pricing will be available closer to the bikes’ arrival here.
