Smart has officially launched its all-electric SUV line-up in New Zealand through a partnership with Armstrong’s. The auto group is one of the country’s biggest independent automotive companies.

The launch of models #1 and #3 marks another step in smart’s global expansion. The smart #1, a compact urban SUV, and the smart #3, an SUV coupe, are now available in New Zealand. Each comes in three variants, PRO+, Premium and Brabus.

Pricing for the smart #1 ranges from NZD $64,990 to $79,990, while the smart #3 is priced from NZD $69,990 to $84,990. On-road costs are extra.

Both models are products of the Mercedes-Benz Global Design team. They combine a modern aesthetic with up-to-the-minute technology and sustainability, reinforcing smart’s vision of innovative and eco-friendly urban mobility.

These models have already launched into China, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore, Egypt, Chile, and Australia.

Test drives for the smart #1 and #3 are now available through Armstrong’s Mercedes-Benz dealerships in East Auckland and Christchurch.

These locations feature smart’s Shop-in-Shop concept. This enables customers to explore the vehicles in an integrated, premium showroom experience.

The East Auckland location is at 279 Ti Rakau Drive, and the Christchurch location is at 6 Detroit Place.

Mandy Zhang, Global CMO of smart, emphasized the importance of the New Zealand launch as part of the brand’s broader vision. Ms Zhang says it is another milestone in expanding smart’s global presence throughout 2025.

Troy Kennedy, CEO of Armstrong’s, echoed the sentiment, highlighting some enthusiastic feedback from test drives out of East Auckland and Christchurch outlets. He said the German engineering, European quality, and Chinese electric innovation are an appealing blend for New Zealand’s eco-conscious automotive market.

With a presence in 37 markets spanning Asia, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, smart will continue expanding its market reach and model range over the coming year. Next to launch will be the #5 medium SUV.
