Except that it won’t be known as a Macan any longer with ICE power under the bonnet.

As the Macan EV sales tail off, Porsche is looking to bring back a petrol-powered alternative.
Here in New Zealand the company has continued to sell the previous Macan with ICE power alongside the new EV. However, now Porsche is re-entering the petrol-powered SUV C-segment with a successor to the Macan. The new model is due out by 2028 and will have a new name.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told Auto Express recently: “We will be developing an SUV, a typical Porsche SUV. The first drawings and concepts are being developed and they’re being enthusiastically received.”
Blume recently stated that the new vehicle will be “differentiated from the BEV Macan”, thanks to “evaluating an independent model line in the SUV segment with combustion and hybrid powertrains”.
Blume admitted that the new electric Macan had “lower volume than expected”. In response, the fresh combustion-engined SUV will give Porsche “a more balanced drivetrain portfolio from 2028 onward”.

The SUV will sit alongside the Macan EV but the newcomer will not use the Macan badge. It will evidently be an “independent model” with a “new design”.
Porsche is evidently “working with synergies that we have from other models”. Therefore, expect the new SUV to use an updated version of the PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) architecture that underpins Macan EV and the petrol-powered Audi Q5.

The PPC platform would give the Macan replacement the option of petrol or plug-in hybrid power.
The new Q5 also comes in SQ guise with a 270kW mild-hybrid 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. Upper level versions of Porsche’s upcoming SUV will likely also feature this powertrain.
