Extra speed and tech are likely for Porsche’s updated road-racer, the 911 GT3 RS.

Porsche’s engineers are working on another refresh of the 911 GT3 RS.

This track-focused variant generally evolves slowly over time. The prototype spied out testing doesn’t look so very different from the existing model but expect changes under the skin.

Visible differences include a new rear light bar, plus a reshaped diffuser that integrates larger exhaust pipes.
However, a closer look reveals two new outlets at the diffuser’s outer edges. These could simply be supplementary exhaust outlets to help reduce back-pressure. But they could also suggest bigger changes to the overall powertrain.

Porsche has been adamant it wants to keep its naturally-aspirated 4L flat-six engine within European emissions rules. This could be addressed with turbocharging or hybrid intervention. However, either move would mean a major change in focus for the GT3 RS which has a loyal customer base. As yet, all this is unconfirmed.

Other minor changes include a change in shape for the bonnet vents which now include smaller vanes and a tiny flick at their base. Inside, a new purely digital control interface is likely, as with GT3. And given the latest GT3 has the option of folding carbon bucket seats this will probably get those too.

Of equal import for Porsche at the end of 2025, there’s a new 911 Turbo about to launch, along with the entirely new generation of electric Cayenne.
