The Omoda 9 SHS (Super Hybrid System) expands the SUV line-up for the brand this month.

Warning, driving on the wrong side of the road, crash imminent.

Priced from $68,990 plus ORCs, the Omoda 9 SHS is a large SUV offered in one well appointed variant.

“The Omoda 9 is the next step for the Omoda brand”, said Roy Munoz, Chief Commercial Officer for Omoda Jaecoo Australasia.

“The Omoda 9 is…a statement of what our brand is capable of and showcases our technological advancements,” he added.

Big wheels here.

Brimming with spec

Sandard items include 20-inch alloys, self parking, a surround camera, dashcam, powered driver’s seat, and heated and vented front and rear outboard seats. There’s also a heated wheel, dual 12.3-inch LCD screens, a 14-speaker Sony audio set-up and sat nav. And there’s more, including a head-up display, ACP and AA, a Qi charger, AI assistant, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof and powered tailgate. Puddle lamps and LED headlights and DRLs round out the spec.

Ready to go out and do the lifestyle thing.

The ‘Hello Omoda’ assistant can adjust the climate control, open the sunroof and change the radio station, without driver distraction.

Luggage capacity of the five-seater ranges from 660-1783L, while braked towing capacity is 1500kg.

Under the hood

Powering the Omoda 9 SHS is a 105kW/215Nm 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine, alongside two front electric motors and a single rear unit. The electric motors produce 75kW/170Nm and 90kW/220Nm up front, and 175kW/310Nm for the rear unit.

With a combined output of 395kW, the Omoda 9 can sprint to 100km/h in a stated 4.9 seconds.

Looks like the Alps in behind, but probably not.

Power heads to the rear wheels, and also to the front wheels via a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).

Thanks to a 34kWh battery pack, this has a claimed 169km (NEDC) of zero-emissions running. A 30-80 per cent rezip on a 70kW fast charger evidently takes under half an hour. Its total driving range is around 1100km before a refill is necessary.

Big bold front, squared off by lighting arrangement.

Safety items include eight airbags, AEB, Lane Keeping, adaptive cruise, and Forward Collision Warning.

The Omoda 9 comes with a seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty along with seven years of roadside assistance. Meantime, the battery pack has an eight-year unlimited kilometre warranty.
