Nissan X-Trail Nismo to take on Skoda Kodiaq vRS

The tuned version of Nissan’s versatile family SUV is being revealed imminently, following the release of a Nismo X-Trail teaser shot.

The rear end of an e-Power X-Trail. Clearly.

The only detail from Nissan’s darkened image is that the X-Trail Nismo will have some vivid red accents….just like all Nismos then. Expect other styling tweaks though.

And some mechanical changes too, with more powerful brakes, revised suspension, sharper steering and perhaps a new exhaust system.

The regular X-Trail features a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with hybrid assistance. Power output is 150kW, giving it a sprint time of just under seven seconds.

Even back in 2016 this looked hot as hell.

There’s the possibility of just a hotter version of the 1.5 three-cylinder engine. But maybe it will also inherit Nissan’s 3.5-litre V6TT engine, good for 369kW and 700Nm of torque. Which should get the X-Trail spinning its wheels.

Nismo has been hotting up Nissans of all types for nearly 40 years, especially the GT-R. But in more recent times they’ve been breathing on Nissan’s SUVs as well, starting with the Juke in 2013.

Ariya Nismo. Nice colours.

The latest to debut was Ariya Nismo. Where the X-Trail Nismo will sell is unclear to date.
