Motorsport Diary: Kiwis racing overseas this weekend

The weekend has arrived, and it features the Qatar Grand Prix: the penultimate round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship.

Our very own Liam Lawson will be looking to bounce back from a difficult Las Vegas Grand Prix. Working in his favour is that he has F1 experience on Lusail International Circuit, having raced there with AlphaTauri last year.

While Max Verstappen has already won the Driver’s Championship, there’s plenty to play for in the Constructor’s battle, with McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull separated by 55 points at the top of the table.

It’s a relatively quiet weekend elsewhere, with the action overseas continuing to wrap up. If you’re missing your motorsport fix, there’s always the GT World Challenge’s 6 Hours of Jeddah, which begins at 3.00 NZST on Sunday and can be watched free online.

In the meantime, for Lawson’s session times, see below.

Enjoy!

A Sprint race weekend awaits in Qatar, with RB locked in a tight battle for sixth in the championship. They’re currently eighth, but only four points off Alpine, with Haas in between the pair.

Lawson had a difficult weekend in Qatar in 2023, failing to finish the sprint and crossing the line 17th in the Grand Prix.
