British carmaker MOKE International has unveiled a new UK manufacturing facility in Leamington Spa as it celebrates its 60th anniversary.

New British facility for making the electric Moke.

It signals the beginning of a major comeback for the heritage brand. Product has been all-electric since 2022 and produced in Europe.

The new factory marks the return of production to the Midlands. That is where the MOKE originated, designed by Sir Alec Issigonis in the 1960s. Production of over 500 units per annum is the aim. Further expansion is likely as the MOKE sells into major markets like the EU and USA.

Iconic and timeless look for MOKE

To mark the opening day, MOKE revealed a series of new sustainable colours for its models.

These all feature a battery that offers range of 86km, and a four-hour recharge time. Top speed from its 30kW motor is 80km/h. The Electric Moke price in the UK. is £35,995, and can be reserved with a £900 deposit.

Nick English, Executive Chairman at MOKE International, commented: “It’s great to be bringing back production to the UK, and indeed the car manufacturing heartland in the Midlands, where the MOKE was originally designed.

“As we now celebrate 60 years of MOKE, we are thrilled to be marking such an exciting chapter, enhancing our craftsmanship and innovation while laying the foundation for future success.”

Big wigs take MOKE for a spin outside the new UK facility.

Labour MP Matt Western, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on electric vehicles, attended the grand opening and praised the investment: “It is excellent to see the creation of new jobs in the EV sector and the company’s commitment to working with local suppliers. I look forward to seeing MOKE International continue to grow and am confident that Leamington Spa will provide an ideal home for this success.”

MOKE’s electric model is available in the US, Mexico, France, Spain, the Balearic Islands, and Italy, with Greek sales imminent. The Electric MOKE has become the first EV from a low-volume manufacturer to secure both EPA Certification and CARB approval. That enables MOKE sales in all 50 US states.
