MG’s first seven-seat SUV for New Zealand, the new MG QS, has scored a full 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
Now on sale nationwide, MG say its QS has been engineered specifically as a true seven-seater rather than a stretched five-seat design. Its third row folds flat to free up additional boot space giving the QS the flexibility MG says ‘Kiwi families have been asking for’.

The SUV arrives with a suite of active safety and driver-assist systems. Standard kit includes a driver monitoring system, rear collision warning, cross-traffic alert with auto braking, speed limit assistance and lane-change assist. Automated Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection is fitted across the range, along with Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keeping Assistance, Forward Collision Alert, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and seven airbags — all helping secure its top ANCAP score. We noted in our test drive that the overspeed warning and the lane keeping can be overly zealous with constant warnings.
Pricing starts at $49,990 for the front-wheel-drive QS Excite, while the all-wheel-drive QS Essence is priced from $55,990, both before on-road costs.
MG Motor New Zealand country manager Dean Sheed said: “The 5-star ANCAP safety rating for the MG QS further reinforces our dedication to safety, quality and innovation. This is our first 7-seat SUV in the market, an exciting milestone for MG and our customers. The QS is designed with families in mind – whether it’s the school run, weekend sport or a family road trip, the extra space and versatility of a true 7-seater will make a real difference in everyday life. As always, we’ve focused on delivering exceptional value without compromising on style, performance or technology. With its spacious interior, turbocharged engine and premium features, the QS is a standout model in our line-up.”
