When the Blues outlasted the Chiefs in the final last year, MG Motor boss Peter Ciao knew that becoming a vehicle partner was an opportunity he couldn’t pass on.

“The Blues are a champion team, and MG is establishing itself as a champion brand; the synergies are clear, so a partnership is an obvious and desirable alignment” he said.

“Our sporting sponsorships in New Zealand have always had a strong community and grassroots focus; I am confident this new association with the Blues will result in similar success. They are a powerful team capable of delivering outstanding achievements.”

The new partnership was announced at Blues HQ by MG New Zealand chief operating officer Harrie Yan, alongside chief executive Andrew Hore and chair Don Mackinnon (opening image) from the Blues.

“We’re thrilled to have MG as our newest partner and our official vehicle supplier; like the Blues, they are a brand on the rise offering vehicles which are genuinely exciting to drive” Hore said.

“If our players can match models such as the MG4 XPower and Cyberster for pace, then we’ll be in for another good season,” he added.

While the Blues are current Super Rugby Pacific champions, MG also claimed the NZ Car of the Year award with the MG4. And it announced an industry-leading 10-year/ 250,000km warranty on all new MG models.

“The Blues are similarly built around resilience, dependability, and tenacity, qualities shared between our respective organisations that will stand the test of time,” Yan said.

“We look forward to being a key partner to the Blues and standing alongside them as they defend their title into 2025 and beyond.”

The Blues Super Rugby Pacific season begins on Saturday, February 15, at Eden Park in a rematch against the Chiefs.
