Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is an electric wagon

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the second model in its CLA family: the CLA Shooting Brake. It also happens to be the brand’s first electric wagon. Following the debut of the CLA saloon, this sleek yet practical Shooting Brake version brings a blend of style, performance and everyday usability to the EV segment, ahead of its European market launch in March 2026.

Built on the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA), the CLA Shooting Brake combines the sporty proportions of a coupe with the versatility of an estate. It offers 455L of boot capacity, expanding out to 1290 litres when the rear seats are folded and complemented by a 101-litre illuminated frunk under the bonnet. Standard roof rails support up to 75kg, while a braked towing capacity of up to 1800kg gives it genuine load-hauling credentials – a rarity in the electric estate category.

Two models will launch initially. The CLA 250+ Shooting Brake EQ delivers 200kW/355Nm and up to 761km of WLTP range, with energy consumption between 12.7–15.2kWh/100km. A more powerful CLA 350 4MATIC Shooting Brake EQ pushes out 260kW/525Nm via dual motors and all-wheel drive, offering a range of up to 730km. Both feature an 85kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery supported by a cutting-edge 800-volt architecture for ultra-rapid charging. A 10-minute DC fast-charge can add up to 310km of range, while AC charging is supported up to 22kW. Expect a petrol electric hybrid drivetrain to follow.

Performance for the EQ is enhanced by a two-speed rear-axle transmission, allowing for strong acceleration and long-distance cruising efficiency. Mercedes claims the CLA 250+ can sprint from 0–100km/h in just 6.8 seconds. The braking system enables recuperation of up to 200kW during deceleration, helping extend real-world range.

The design builds on the CLA Saloon’s striking styling, with 142 LED “stars” in the front grille, a panoramic glass roof, and a sculpted rear highlighted by a star-themed LED light strip. Inside, the cabin is more spacious than its predecessor, with improved headroom and legroom across all five seats thanks to a longer, taller body and extended wheelbase.

As part of a broader product plan, the CLA Shooting Brake and its saloon sibling will be joined by two electric SUVs on the same MMA platform.
