A selection of four-cylinder Mercedes-AMG models is reportedly headed for the chopping block as the brand prepares for incoming European Union noise regulations. According to German outlet Elektroauto-News, an internal Mercedes-Benz product management memo from October confirms several AMG models will be discontinued. Apparently this is to do with coming noise regulations, and yet these rules won’t effect the brand’s six- or eight-cylinder vehicles are affected. Seems weird?
The memo reportedly states production of the Mercedes-AMG GLA35, C43, and GLC43 will continue only until the end of the third week of February 2026. The higher-performance C63 S E Performance sedan and GLC63 S E Performance SUV will reportedly remain in production until the third week of May 2026.

One model appears safe for now. The document notes the Mercedes-AMG GLA45 S is unaffected, and that “orders can be accepted without restriction in accordance with the available quotas.”

If accurate, the cuts would slash AMG’s four-cylinder lineup by more than half. Other AMG models still unmentioned in the memo include the recently launched GT43 coupe, SL43 roadster, and the A35 and A45, which are nearing the end of their lifecycle.
As for what comes next, the internal document reportedly tells dealers: “We will inform you about possible successor products in due course.”
The changes are being driven by new EU noise limits. “From July 1, 2026… the external noise regulation Phase 3 UN-R51.03 will come into force,” the memo reportedly reads. “This will result in a reduction of the external noise limits.”
Mercedes-AMG declined to comment to Elektroauto-News regarding future product plans, but did say it will launch “the most extensive product offensive in its history in the coming years.” That includes new high-performance EVs as well as a “next-generation, high-tech electrified V8.”
The shake-up comes at a transition point for several Mercedes models. A new-generation GLA is already testing ahead of an expected 2026 reveal, moving to the MMA platform that will also underpin the next GLB and reportedly an A-Class successor. Meanwhile, the controversial C63 and GLC63 S E Performance — whose four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrains have faced criticism for weight and sound quality — are reportedly set to return to six-cylinder power. We guess the others can be made to meet the sound regulations, while for those models that aren’t selling, it’s a good excuse to cull them.
For now, AMG enthusiasts in Europe may soon find fewer four-cylinder performance options on offer as the brand reshapes its lineup to meet ever-tighter regulatory requirements.
