Mercedes-AMG is building a 911 GT3 RS rival

A new track rival for Porsche’s top GT3 is about to launch. The first public outing of a new AMG track-oriented supercar is likely at the Munich motor show. This V8-engined concept is said to be based on the second-generation AMG GT. The firm has thus far released teaser shots only.

Quite the wing there for new AMG track special.

Designed to set new record lap times the track special will be previewed by the new Concept AMG GT Track Sport. Expect it to be circulating at the Nurburgring some time soon, attempting to set a new record. The AMG GT Black Series remains the third fastest production vehicle around the circuit. AMG One holds the record at 6min 29.09.

While work continues on the first electric AMG GT set to launch in 2027 (previewed by the 1000kW Concept GT XX, Friday’s announcement indicates that AMG isn’t finished with combustion power just yet.

The new flagship GT will succeed the AMG GT Black Series of 2022. That created 553kW from a highly modified version of AMG’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8.

The company did not provide any technical details of the new concept but confirmed it will represent an “expansion of the GT series” and that it would be powered by a V8.

And yet another view from the front. Not giving much awaty here.

Expect even more power than the GT Black Series managed.

The most powerful variant of the second-generation GT range at present is the 450kW track-focused Pro.

The new concept features an enormous GT3-like wing, a front splitter, a lowered stance and wide tracks at both ends.
