Mazda New Zealand is weighing up whether to add another electric model to its future line-up, confirming the EZ-60 SUV is now under active review for this market. The move follows the brand’s decision to import the 6E electric sedan from China, which arrives locally in 2026.
EVs and Beyond reported Mazda NZ’s product and communications manager, Paul Sherley, as saying the EZ-60 is firmly on the table as the brand shapes its next phase of electrification.
“It is something we are considering, it is on our radar,” Sherley says.

He notes that the SUV format would likely resonate more strongly with local buyers than the sedan-bodied 6E, simply because of its broader appeal in the Kiwi market.
“An SUV is certainly going to attract a wider customer base, it is a bigger part of the market,” Sherley says.
Chinese-developed EV could come here as CX-6e
The EZ-60 is a joint venture product created by Changan Mazda in China and rides on the same EPA1 platform that underpins the new 6E sedan. While the vehicle will be marketed in Europe as the CX-6e, the Chinese version is heavily based on the Deepal S07.
The model launched in China in September 2025 and is produced in both full battery-electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) forms, giving Mazda NZ multiple powertrain options to assess for the local market.

Powertrain and battery options
The EZ-60 BEV offers two NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery packs:
• 66.8kWh, with a claimed 520km range
• 79.97kWh, with a claimed 620km range
The EREV variant pairs a 31.73kWh LFP battery with a 1.5-litre petrol generator, delivering a quoted 160km of pure-electric driving before the engine steps in to maintain charge.
Both versions use a rear-mounted 190kW electric motor, with the EREV producing 255hp and the BEV 235hp.
While Mazda has yet to confirm which powertrains might be suitable for New Zealand, the EREV configuration could appeal to buyers looking for long-distance flexibility without relying entirely on the public charging network.

Size, practicality and features
At 4850mm long with a 2902mm wheelbase, the EZ-60 slots squarely into the mid-size crossover segment.
Practicality figures include:
• 350 litres of boot space (up to 2036 litres with seats folded)
• 126-litre front trunk on BEV models
Inside and out, the SUV carries Mazda’s familiar Kodo design language, though the China-developed proportions give it a slightly more futuristic flavour than the brand’s Japanese-built models.
Driver assistance systems are extensive, with five radars, five cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors enabling Level 2 autonomous driving capability.
No timeline has been set for a NZ decision, but Sherley says evaluation is ongoing as the brand prepares for its next round of electrified products.
