Mazda BT-50 recalled for engine bay fire risk

The Mazda BT-50 is being recalled due to a potential fuel leak in the engine bay that may cause a fire.

According to NZTA’s safety recalls database, the fuel hose on certain models may rub against the oil level gauge guide tube and possibly cause it to split.

“If the car continues to be used with such interference, the fuel hose may become worn out, and in the worst case, a fuel leak could occur from the damaged fuel hose,” the recall notice said.

The issue affects BT-50s with the model year 2021 to 2023 and owners will be contacted via mail.

A recall was also issued for the Isuzu D-Max due to the same problem as the model shares its platform with the Mazda.

“Isuzu Motors have identified that vehicles manufactured during a certain period may have a misaligned diesel supply hose in the engine bay,” Isuzu stated.

“This could lead to the fuel hose rubbing on an engine bracket, and in extreme cases, could lead to diesel leakage.”

Isuzu states that a fix involves replacing the fouling fuel hose and its clips, as well as ensuring it has been aligned correctly.
